Quality Assurance & Accreditatiori in Higher Education in Sudan
A Critical Review
Abstract
Higher education in the Sudan underwent a number of changes and developments in the last two decades. Consequently, the present frameworks & structures of quality assurance and accreditation are no longer sufficient to maintain and improve quality of learning outcomes. Moreover, the lack of a national qualifications framework interrupted the quality of higher education outcomes. Then, competency the of graduates is under question. Using secondary data, we critically reviewed the existing structures and frameworks in higher education namely: the Law of higher education, the Natiomal Council of Higher Education and its scientific committees, the Higher Authority of Evaluation and Accreditation as well as the Higher Committee of Private & Foreign Education. The results revealed that, almost all the existing structures and frameworks are incapable to monitor & evaluate the quality assurance activities in higher education institutions. Also, the study revealed that the lack of national qualifications framework in Sudan undermined the recognition of academic degrees internally and abroad
